Is your child able to read but struggling to understand what they read? Do they have difficulty answering comprehension questions, identifying the main idea, making inferences, or completing reading assignments independently? Our Reading & Comprehension Evaluation is designed for students in grades 3–5 to identify their reading strengths and uncover specific areas that may need additional support. During this 45–60 minute one-on-one session, your child will complete a variety of reading activities that allow us to look beyond correct and incorrect answers and better understand where the difficulty may be occurring. Evaluation Components: Word Reading & Decoding: We will observe your child’s ability to read familiar, unfamiliar, and multisyllabic words. Reading Fluency: Your child will read a short passage aloud to observe accuracy, pacing, phrasing, and overall ease of reading. Vocabulary: We will assess your child’s ability to understand words within the context of a passage. Reading Comprehension: Your child will complete activities targeting literal comprehension, main idea and supporting details, sequencing, making inferences, and using text evidence. Listening Comprehension: Your child will listen to a passage and answer questions about it. Comparing listening comprehension with independent reading can help us identify whether decoding or fluency may be interfering with understanding. Retelling & Written Response: Your child will explain what they read in their own words and complete a short written response. Personalized Reading Skills Report Following the evaluation, you will receive a personalized report outlining your child’s strengths, skills that may need additional reinforcement, priority areas to focus on, practical strategies to use at home, and recommended next steps. This evaluation may be helpful for students who: Can read but struggle to understand what they read Read slowly or make frequent errors Struggle with comprehension questions, main idea, inference, or text evidence Understand better when someone reads to them Have fallen behind and parents are unsure where to begin Grades: 3rd–5th Duration: 45–60 minutes Investment: $75 This is an educational reading skills evaluation designed to identify strengths and areas that may need additional support. It is not a standardized or clinical assessment and does not diagnose learning disabilities or other conditions.
